To the envy of all NYC Samians, I, Alex, your humble webmaster, am hanging back at a Net Cafe in Pythagoras, Pythagoras Internet Cafe, right in the port to be exact. It’s an interesting place, and I highly recommend it if you’re in the port.
They’ve got lots of PCs for you to use to stay connected, if you can’t find your own at home. Rates are reasonable, and the music isn’t too bad. They say they have wi-fi, but good luck finding a table outside in the port during a soccer game.
By the way, AEK is playing Panatheniakos, and if I can find the score, I’ll keep you all up to date.
Photos will be following of the trip, but in all seriousness, if you want to know what Samos is like, get yourself a plane ticket and visit. For tickets, I will be linking to the contact info of a great Astoria-based travel agent, whom I should have used rather than Orbitz.com. More details on that in my blog, GameDefender.com
This Sunday, Hellenic-Americans celebrated the 187th anniversary of Greek Independence on Fifth Avenue.
While you can find many beautiful photos of the festivities online here:
…This site is focused primarily on the Pansamian Brotherhood of New York, and for our photos, this is the main source.
Please feel free to browse our gallery, and if you would like printed copies to add to your collection, contact the webmaster, or anyone at the club.
The annual dance was a great success for this year. 160+ Samians and friends attended our annual dance celebrating our 93rd year of existance.
The food served by Astoria Manor was excellent, and we all enjoyed a night of song and dance, courtesy of Nikos Sarantos from Samos.
Thanks goes out to our chairman and vice president, Telis Paleatsos, who organized the events for the night.
The night started with cocktails, were many friends reacquainted and shared stories from the old days. Many new faces were also present, and new relationships were formed.
Later the party moved to the ballroom, where Mr. Bournias and Mr. Sarantos entertained us with song and dance, Samian Style!
Two of our players from Team Pythagoras, Dimitrios Katiras and Manoli Kaliotzakis were celebrating their birthdays that evening, and we had a special surprise for them! Charlie, the manager of the night club Zodiac had arranged for Eva, a fabulous Mediterranean belly dancer to strut her stuff.
At about 10:30 PM, Telis made the “oifficial” introduction of Team Pythagoras, sponsored by our President and his company, Mystic Brokerage. To thank the President for all of his generosity, the team presented an official jersey in an elegant frame.
Afterwards, a special honor was given to Kostas Paleatsos from Hora. Kostas is a long time member and has contributed a much to our club. Over the years, he has held many positions throughout the Board of Directors and is an honored member of Pythagoras.
Finally, our president, Mr. Kondogiannis, announced that we are now closer than ever to our very own club house. In the past, we have used raffles to raise funds. This time around, donations will be replacing the lottery, which allows for members and sponsors to donate at their desired level. This evening, we collected roughly $7000.
Congratulations and thanks to all who helped us achieve this!
Feel free to browse through the photographs of this evening’s festivities.
